Check out the website below to practise singing the pollination song as well as to learn more about the pollination process!

Two questions were raised in class today:
1) What becomes the stalk of the fruit after fertilisation has taken place?
2) What forms the core of the apple fruit?
Take a look at these videos and they may provide the answers to the above questions!

I've looked up my notes that were given to me by my teachers in NIE and here are the astounding answers to the above questions:
2) The core of the apple is actually the OVARY of the apple flower! The part of the apple we eat is actually formed from the receptacle (bottom of the flower that is attached to the flower stalk) of the apple flower. Thus, an apple can be called a 'false' fruit.
Other interesting facts:
- The strawberry is also formed from the receptacle of the flower and the 'seeds' on its surface are actually the FRUIT which are formed from the ovaries of the flower!
- Some fruits are actually formed from multiple ovaries from many individual flowers e.g. jackfruit and pineapple.
Enjoy,
Miss Lee
